Grandma’s Garden
Winner of the 2007-2008 Minnesota Christian Writers Guild Annual Writing Contest.
Grandma’s Garden is based on a single verse, 2 Timothy 1:5b: “That faith first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, and I know you now have that same faith.” In this story, Timothy is telling his two young daughters a bedtime story about a little boy who visits his grandma in her garden every day. A Second Chance
Winner of Guideposts Writers Workshop 2008 Contest.
A Second Chance is a true story of obedience and following Gods call. Stepping out in faith is sometimes a challenge, and it seems we don’t often see the ripples this creates in our lives. This story details one such experience, when I thought I had failed and let God down. Thankfully, He gave me a second chance and an unexpected blessing. Eight years after I listened to his voice. Eight years. A friend called to say my single act of obedience showed her His grace and changed an eternal destiny.
Making the Cut
Winner of 2000 Guideposts Young Writers Contest.
Making the Cut is a true story of trusting God knows whats best for you in His perfect timing. Tryouts are the most feared word in all of sports. Not everyone will make the team. Even when you perform as well as physically possible, even better than most, sometimes you still just don’t make it. When this happened to me, disappointment and frustration with God began seeping into my life. After I finally admitted He was God in every area of my life, one spot remained on the team. A spot reserved by an Almighty God for me. Originally published in the June 2000 issue of Guideposts Magazine.
